Spring Cleaning For Small-Medium Businesses

In the Spring a young man’s and young girl’s fancy turns to love, but business might choose this time to think about addressing ways of dealing with company issues that need a bit of “dusting off.” In this article, we will suggest one. This Spring prepare for coaching sessions with employees. Here are some suggested steps:

  1. Schedule strategically. Timing is important. Schedule at a time when interruptions will be at a minimum and enough time can be allotted. Mornings are usually best.
  2. Prepare thoroughly. Good coaching is not spontaneous. The employee should be given the opportunity to come prepared. Let him or her know what the session is about and recommend that the associate bring the right materials.
  3. Get to the point. Your associate’s stress level will probably be high. The associate will have more confidence and will be better able to address issues head on if the agenda is clear.
  4. Develop an agenda. Know what needs to be accomplished. Plan each step. Review your relationship with the associate. What specifically do you need to address? How has he or she responded in the past? Meekly? Angrily? Matter-of-factly? Talk your session over with an appropriate level person in your organization to make sure you are ready for the discussion.

Spring is a great time to address all concerns in your business. Dusting off of issues that have not been addressed during the doldrums of winter months can be a rewarding way to get a fresh start and prepare for new growth.

The Chamber Jeffersontown's Education Initiative

Wallet Wi$e

With the Education Committee and the Kentucky Council on Economic Education, The Chamber Jeffersontown has encouraged 4 Jeffersontown schools to participate in Take Stock In Kentucky.  This program drives students to research companies in Kentucky, allows them to "buy" stocks, and watch the ebb and flow of the market.

Tully Elementary, Jeffersontown Elementary, and St. Michael's Catholic School are all participating in the program, and we are helping to track their progress on a special Wallet Wi$e website.  If you are a financial advisor, stock broker, banker, or interested in helping students and teachers in this great game, please contact Shelley.
